Civil Engineer - Construction Inspector Job Description We are looking to hire multiple upstanding Civil Engineering Construction Inspectors.
This position will be responsible for the inspection of construction projects and/or improvements in public right-of-way (e.
g.
, roadway reconstruction, utility repair/upgrades, and erosion-control projects) to ensure compliance with state, federal and/or local codes, ordinances, standards and specifications.
Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction specifications to provide direction to staff and communicate with outside entities.
May require various work shifts (including nights, weekends and holidays), the ability to crawl, climb and/or stoop on construction sites and extensive walking.
Subject to traffic hazards and varying weather conditions.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 to 10 years’ experience inspecting the design/construction/maintenance in one of the following areas: Roadways, storm drainage systems Water/sewer mains and other utilities Bridge/culvert improvements Transit improvement projects A professional engineer (PE) license is desired but not required.
To ensure success in this role, you will apply your knowledge of engineering fundamentals and safety regulations to ensure soundness of civil engineering structures.

Civil Engineering Construction Inspector Responsibilities: Attending pre-construction meetings where necessary.
Evaluating plans and specifications for construction projects to ensure conformance with regulations.
Conducting field inspections to inspect standards of building structures and materials.
Conducting field and laboratory tests on materials to measure compliance with regulations.
Issuing of violation notices and stop work orders where structures and materials do not comply with regulations.
Referring deviations and disagreements to engineer for clarification.
Maintaining records of documentation.
Conducting inspections of existing structures following natural disasters and other events that could compromise integrity of existing structures.
Assisting staff with inquiries.
Attending close-out meetings of construction projects.
Civil Engineering Construction Inspector Requirements: 5+ years’ experience as a Civil Engineering Construction Inspector.
Valid driver’s license.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Available to work shifts, nights and weekends.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
