Job Overview The Safety Officer is responsible for facilitating and enforcing compliance with Holt’s safety standards to maintain a safe work environment and to meet Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) guidelines.
This position plays an important role in mitigating any hazards and potential OSHA violations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Build working relationships with project staff and Subcontractor personnel Contribute to the development of the overall project safety program Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives Attend Project Meetings, and advise project teams of all safety issues in support of company policies and programs Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with Holt’s policies, regulation, and owner contractual requirements Ensure that subcontractors are conducting the proper training as per OSHA standards Conduct effective worker orientation program for every new employee and administer and record their participation Gather pre-task plans and Job Hazard Analyses for all project contractors based on contractual requirements Conduct safety meetings and issue minutes of meetings as directed by the Sr.
Safety Officer Maintain a log of each subcontractor’s toolbox safety meetings held with their employees Establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of minimizing hazards, while promoting health and safety Ensure compliance with all safe work practices and procedures.
Escalate any issues or concerns for prompt resolution Manage project level safety culture with confidence in all aspects of safety compliance Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity and take appropriate action Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
to minimize and/or eliminate risks Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy Record and investigate incidents to determine root cause, and methods of mitigation Maintain all Safety personnel documentation, and update training skills, to maintain safety required qualifications Support the development and enforcement of all Holt safety practices, policies and programs Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.
) Implement Safety stand-downs to reinforce compliance Assist with training design and implementation on safety procedures and requirements Assist with revision of existing policies and measures to update according to legislation Conduct safety audits and recommend corrective action per Company policy and work with Sr.
Safety Officer to issue reports of any violations or unsafe practices to subcontractors for immediate resolution Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field 2-3 years of experience in commercial construction, or combination of education and experience In depth knowledge of legislation (e.
g.
, OSHA /ANSI /NFPA, State and Local Safety Standards) and methods Working knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices Working knowledge of safety regulations and legislation at local, state, and federal levels Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to be proactive and prepared for all phases of Safety in a Construction work zone.
Diligence in applying attention to detail Ability to present and explain health and safety topics clearly and effectively Certifications and/or Licenses OSHA 30 OSHA 510 First Aid /CPR /BBP AED Training Additional certification/licenses - Preferred: Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) Safety & Health Specialist (SHS) Associate Safety Professional (ASP), preferred Certified safety and health official, preferred Graduate Safety Practitioner, preferred Any local/regional licensing/certification requirement Holt Construction Corp.
