POSITION TITLE: Project Engineer
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Develop project specific rigging, mechanical, structural design calculations and provide technical conformance regarding codes and standards for Wyatt Field Service Company.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Essential Functions Make SAFETY priority number one.
Early in the project development stage, conduct engineering on-site walk downs to understand scope of work and lead the development of engineering deliverables needs.
Communicate with field construction supervision to establish engineering needs required to support construction.
Incorporate design safety and environmental responsibility into daily action.
Incorporate positive interpersonal skills when communicating or interacting with customer, subcontract, vendor, craft and Wyatt office and jobsite personnel.
Employ organizational skills that effectively minimize obstacles that negatively impact the project.
When obstacles arise, employ sound decision making/problem solving skills to resolve the issue.
Develops and maintains a projects technical design deliverable, an archive of design calculations and drawings, technical communications to internal and external stakeholders, applies codes and material specifications to engineering specific deliverables.
Provides input to crane and rigging selections and Constructability Studies.
Conforms project specific design requirements to comply with customer, Wyatt corporate policy and code design requirements.
Review and participate in the approval process of certain activities that have special technical requirements and procedures as established by corporate policy.
Review and participate in the approval process of certain activities that have special technical requirements and procedures as established by project scope of work with clients and clients engineering contractors.
Interface with CADD 3D Modeling and 2D Drafting in the development of Wyatt engineering deliverables.
Provide onsite technical field support to Wyatt Construction supervision and personnel during key and/or critical activities associated with Wyatt Engineering deliverables.
May occur during Capital Project Construction, Pre-Turnaround Construction or Turnaround Construction activities.
Marginal Functions As required by Engineering Manager, act as liaison with owner, regulatory agencies, subcontractors and/or internal departments on all design matters.
Conduct regular walk downs and inspections of construction projects, including safety audits.
Perform additional assignments per the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Physical Activities: Physical activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Walk, verbally communicate, sit, stand, climb, crawl, kneel, lift; drive a vehicle.
Physical Demands: Physical demands commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
Use hands and arms to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Requires ascending the construction to examine welding, entering confined spaces and passing a pulmonary function test to be eligible to wear a respirator and participating in the office drug testing program.
Climb ladders and stairs of customer facilities.
Visual Acuity: Visual activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
See well (either naturally or with correction) and focus clearly on objects at varying distances.
The ability to identify and distinguish color is also required to evaluate color-coded identifications systems and NDT results Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Employee is subject to inside and outside conditions, including high and low ambient temperatures.
Employee subject to hazards of operating at elevated levels Employee may occasionally wear a respirator or fall protection harness and lanyard.
Employee will occasionally be subject to noise levels above 85 dbl and will be required to wear ear protection.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Knowledge A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience is required.
A working knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section I, Section II, and Section VIII, Divisions 1 and 2, and the National Board Inspection Code is required.
Experience: Five years or more of employment in the construction industry (pressure vessel, structural and piping field) performing design engineering and supervision.
Has at a minimum, introductory experience with developing lift plans in excess of 100 tons.
Practical and degree knowledge of design and building codes, welding processes, metals and metallurgy for the petro-chemical and power industry is necessary.
It is vitally important the prior experience generated a thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and codes and their impact on project activities.
In addition, knowledge of computer hardware and software is also needed.
A professional engineering license is desirable but not required.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: (Which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
) Computer software: Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint), PVElite, AutoCad, MathCad and use of the Internet.
